Pollutant management practices are used to focus interventions only where they are needed to improve and sustain soil fertility and productivity while minimizing risks to the environment, and to immobilize or adsorb contaminants from polluted soil. They address the soil threat of soil borne pests and diseases.
SQAPP includes 27 examples of the world-wide use of the following soil managment practices.
- Phytoremediation
- Integrated pest and disease management
- Integrated nutrient management
- Automated targeting
Pest control management practices are used to reduce damage caused to crops by weeds, pests and diseases and to increase yield. They address the soil threat of soil borne pests and diseases .
SQAPP includes 55 examples of the world-wide use of the following soil managment practices.
- mechanical weed control
- chemical weed control
- biological weed control
- biological pest control
- physical pest control
- chemical pest control
- physical disease control
- chemical disease control
- biological disease control
Soil management practices are principally used to protect and enhance the soil composition and structure thereby addressing the threats of erosion, compaction, poor water holding capacity and organic matter decline. They are also used to reduce extreme alkalinity or acidity.
SQAPP includes 51 examples of the world-wide use of the following soil managment practices.
- No tillage
- Minimum tillage
- Contour ploughing
- Strip tillage
- Subsoiling
- Roughening the soil surface
- Raised beds
- Avoidance of traffic
- Controlled traffic
- Respect wheel load carrying capacity
- Claying soils
- Adding sand
- Soil conditioners
- Liming
- Alkalinity management
- Straw interlayer burial
- Conservation agriculture
